Peer Tutoring

Peer tutoring is available to assist Year 7 and Year 8 students improve their reading. Peer tutoring takes place in the library every day between 8:40 and 9:00 am .

The Peer tutors are made up of Year 9 and 10 volunteers who are trained to become tutors. The tutors are assessed by the STLA (Student teacher learning assistance) prior to being involved in the programme.

The programme follows the PAUSE, PROMPT and PRAISE method, developed at Macquarie University . Studies have shown on average a student will gain 2 months in reading age for every 1 month of reading practice.

Students participating in the programme are assessed again by the STLA using the Neal Reading Test. The programme has been running at Erskine Park High School for many years and has been the foundation of many great success stories.
