Peer Mentoring

Peer Mentoring Mission Statement

Mentoring is an alliance, which creates a space for dialogue that results
in reflection, action and learning. Erskine Park High school’s mentoring programme
endeavors to initiate this process and establish connections between
the students and their mentors in a caring, safe and structured environment.

Programme Overview
Session Objective
1. Connections
  • Mentor/Mentee establishing a rapport
  • Students acknowledge the importance of trust and confidentiality
  • Students gain an understanding of the program and establish individual goals
2. EPHS Roadmap
  • Mentee’s gain an overview of the welfare pathways/programs within the school
  • Mentee’s made aware of the opportunities within the school and how to access them.
  • Students gain an understanding of accessing technology and technology policy.
3. Active Listening
  • Understanding the importance of being heard in an accepting and non judgmental manner.
  • Students recognise the role of body language in relation to active listening
  • Students gain an understanding of the communication process
4. Bully Busting
  • Mentee’s recognise the different forms of bullying
  • Understand why people bully
  • Mentee’s understand importance of/how to access help.
5. Standing Strong
  • Mentee’s develop a positive sense of self
  • Learn the importance of positive body language and self awareness
  • Develop coping strategies and understand the meaning of resilience.
6. Relationships
  • Mentee’s learn the different types of relationships
  • Mentee’s learn to recognise positive relationships
  • Gain an understanding of individual rights and responsibilities in relationships

 

Mentor Session Structure

  • Each Mentor session will begin with a group centered discussion and overview covering the activities and outcomes to be achieved. This will only be attended by the Mentors.
  • Mentors will meet their Mentee and work through the session activity.
  • At the completion of each session the mentor will emphasise the main objectives of the session with the mentee.
  • Mentors reconvene and evaluate the session. Stating the positives, negatives and future strategies relating to the specific session.
  • Throughout the duration of the whole mentoring program both the mentor and mentee will maintain a diary. The diary will be a personal record of their progress, thoughts and achievements.

 

Confidentiality
Both mentor and mentee are made aware of the importance of confidentiality and understand that certain issues must be disclosed to the coordinating teacher. These issue are covered in mentor training.
