RATIONALE
Homework
is given to extend and/or reinforce work done in the classroom. It
must always relate clearly to the material being studied, reinforce
material studied previously or possibly prepared by researching new
material for an upcoming lesson. Regardless of what form it takes,
homework should be monitored carefully.
POLICY
Students
at Erskine Park High School will be given regular homework across
all KLA’s. Homework need not be given in every subject every day.
Teachers
will ensure that students are given homework regularly. Students
will be given adequate time to complete major assignments. If students
have several homework deadlines in different subjects which are too
close together they should inform and negotiate with teachers.
If
a student is absent it is their responsibility to catch up on the
work missed. Parents are invited to seek work from the school for
the child where absences, suspensions or leave take place.
OUTCOMES
It
is expected that students will complete the homework to the best
of their ability and meet deadlines. Homework is designed to promote
and assist in the consolidation of classwork. Where a student finds
it difficult to meet the deadlines set they are encouraged to supply
a note and/or a doctor’s certificate if it is an assessment task.
GUIDELINES
Homework
and study should be part of each student’s daily routine.
As
a rough guide:
- Year
7-8 students should expect to spend about 1 hour per week night
on homework.
- Year
9-10 students should expect to spend about 1½ hours per night
on homework.
- Seniors
should spend 1-2 hours per unit of study per week (including
a regular study and revision timetable).
Please
note: These times are only an approximate for each night and will
depend on the work learnt in class.
HOMEWORK
DIARY
All
students should have a diary with them in each class. All homework
requirements should be entered in the diary immediately.
