Policy

Erskine Park High School is committed to creating a safe and caring environment in which all students can achieve success, socially as well as academically. We aim to develop a code of courteous conduct for the whole school. The community of Erskine Park High School will not accept bullying and harassment.

Definition

Besag 1989:

“Bullying is a behaviour which can be defined as the repeated attack, physical, psychological, social or verbal in nature, by those in a position of power which is formally or situationally defined, with the intention of causing distress for their own gain or gratification.”

“Bullying is an attitude rather than an act. It can be defined as bullying by measuring the effects the acts have on a vulnerable child.”

Consequences

Bullies at Erskine Park High School will be dealt with in the following way:

bullying register

“no-blame” interview by a senior member of staff/counsellor

referral to peer mediation

detention/punishment

isolation

suspension

Parents will be contacted whenever a bullying incident occurs.
